Credentials: CPP and the Master of Photography (M.Photog.)
In most fields, credentials matter when they reflect standards and accountability, not marketing. In professional photography, certain credentials require real demonstration of competence and commitment.
Two credentials I’ve earned through that process are:
Certified Professional Photographer (CPP)
Master of Photography (M.Photog.)
These represent years of disciplined work, education, and evaluations of professional images—not only producing images, but producing them with consistency and professional intent.
The training always continues for a professional. At this year’s Imaging USA, I completed six days of photography and business training and formally received my Master of Photography (M.Photog.) degree (photos included). Conferences like Imaging USA are valuable because they deliver concentrated technical instruction, peer learning, and business processes—then you apply it immediately in client work.
Credentials aren’t the end goal; they’re a milestone in a longer process of getting better, sharper, and more capable.
This is the third in a continue four series blog. Next in this series: Continuing Education and Creative Capability (Compositing & Beyond)—why training doesn’t stop, and how new skills (like compositing) expand what we can create when a client needs something beyond standard photography. It will be published next week.
